Why we established Collcutt Associates
Updated: Oct 17, 2020
We are Peter Sheppard and Tim Walsh, the two principals of Collcutt Associates. We have known each other and worked together for many years, largely during our time at Lloyd’s Register. Since leaving LR we have both decided to operate as independent consultants and have set up our own businesses.
So far so normal, many professionals get to the stage where operating as an independent consultant becomes attractive. It provides an opportunity to undertake a range of projects for different clients providing a variety of stimulation, flexibility and the chance to choose what to work on. However one of the drawbacks of this option can be working alone and having to rely entirely on your own skill base and experience. For this reason, we have come together to provide services, as our skills and experience complement each other and we have experience of successfully working together.
It became apparent that we could extend our market proposition to include other individuals with whom we’ve previously worked, so as to create a network of independent consultants,. This has the advantage of creating a stronger service proposition - business change projects are invariably multifaceted and are best tackled with a multidisciplinary approach. For example, all business challenges have a “people” aspect and usually a financial aspect, but they are also likely to have dimensions relating to strategy, sales and marketing, operations, communications and inevitably a range of stakeholders who need to be engaged and managed.
This is the idea behind Collcutt; two principals who have experience in leading and advising businesses and who have worked together; supported by a network of known, quality specialists who can help clients address a range of business challenges.
“Ah...OK” I hear you say, “but what about the name, where did that come from?” Well that’s the subject for a different blog!
